Where You Belong: Inside Lexington’s LGBTQ+ Friendly Gym and Wellness Community

At Sol Fitness, we believe feeling safe and seen is just as important as feeling strong. That’s why we’ve created a space where you can explore movement, connection, and wellness—free from judgment.

We’re an LGBTQ+ owned and operated fitness studio in Lexington, KY, and from day one, our mission has been clear: create a space where everyone feels safe to show up as their full selves—in the body they have, with the story they carry, and at whatever point they’re at on their wellness journey.

This place was built by us—Sunny Bayne and Stephanie Melvin, partners in business and in life—and our powerhouse team of trainers, wellness pros, and education experts - because we know all firsthand how hard it can be to find a space that feels real. Not just welcoming on the surface, but rooted in community, care, and connection.

And if you’ve ever walked into a gym and felt like you didn’t belong—you’re exactly who we built Sol for.

We Are the Space We Wish Existed

We didn’t want to create just another gym. We wanted to create a home base.

A space where people—especially folks in the LGBTQ+ community —could drop the armor, take a deep breath, and feel at home in their bodies. A place to lift weights, yes—but also to lift each other. A place where mental health, emotional safety, and identity are part of the conversation, not an afterthought.

Most of our team identifies as LGBTQ+. That matters. Because when you walk in the door and see yourself reflected in the people leading the room, something shifts. You feel it: You belong here.

Wellness That Feels Like You

There’s no one way to “be fit” at Sol. No perfect body, no perfect pace.

Whether you’re training for strength, dancing your heart out, moving through grief, coming back from burnout, or figuring out what movement even feels good again—we meet you where you are. Our classes and coaching are designed to be inclusive, trauma-aware, and truly supportive.

You won’t find mirrors in our main space. You will find music that moves you, instructors who remember your name, and people who cheer for each other just because.

Building Queer Community Through Movement

For a lot of us, fitness spaces haven’t always felt safe. They’ve felt performative, binary, exclusive.

At Sol, we’re flipping that script.

We’re building a gym culture where community comes first. That means:

  • LGBTQ+ friendly personal trainers who actually get it

  • Group fitness classes that feel joyful, inclusive, and fun (not intimidating)

  • Workshops and events designed with our community in mind

  • A no-judgment, body-positive space for every gender, orientation, and experience level

We don’t just want you to work out. We want you to find your people, feel supported, and remember that your health belongs to you—not to any stereotype, standard, or expectation.

Pride Is Personal Here

June is Pride Month—but this work is every day.

We’re proud to be a part of the LGBTQ+ small business community in Lexington, and we’re even prouder to be doing it in a way that’s real. The visibility matters. The safety matters. The people matter.

When someone walks through our doors and says, “I’ve never felt this comfortable in a gym before,”—that’s when we know we’re doing it right.
